Warning: Comes with Adventure

A friend recently made a post where it mentioned people having to come with warning labels. I replied that I had been told that several times in my life. She thought that I must be hanging out with the wrong people. That wasn't the case at all, though.

A long time ago I learned to start kicking out the people in my life who would attach negative warnings about me. I still have a few hanging around, but that's because not everyone can get kicked to the curb completely.

Now, the warning labels that get attached to me are much better. Such as WARNING: COMES WITH ADVENTURE. Most people live their lives working and spend their off-time on the couch or eating. I understand that, too, especially with starting this new teaching career and grad school, as well as my band, being a yoga instructor, and raising a family. I'm tired.

But, sitting on the couch and watching television during off-time isn't recharging. Having a glass of wine, even with friends, isn't even recharging. Moving my body in a healthy way and laughing is recharging, though.

My mom was recently here for her birthday. The first day she got here, I did a very fancy hair treatment for her. If she likes it and chooses to keep using it, then hopefully that will save her lots of time and money from having to go to the salons (that's exhausting to me!).

Then, I proceeded to show her how great those products and treatments work by taking her hiking into to the mountains, covered in clouds and a slightly icy walking path. I know she was sweating at one point. It was an easy hike, compared to the others around, but it went UP.

Her hair still looked lovely. The next day was her birthday. We had a lot of celebrating and eating around the kitchen and firepit. After everyone had left, we poured ourselves a glass of wine, and were about to enjoy it.

Just as I was sitting down, I looked at the mountains in the background and realized that I still had enough daylight to show her around our riding trails with my four-wheeler. Before I even took my first sip of wine, I said, "Mom! Want to go on my wheeler and explore the desert with me real quick before the sun goes down?"

That's the part of my life where I'm told that I should come with a warning sign. If I can find the right people to say "yes" then I take advantage of adventure. She did say "yes," and off we went--up and down the dunes and around the sandy bends of dried river beds, up into the sky and leveling out to overlook the mountains and valleys around us. Our cold bodies made it back home and we warmed up with that nice glass of red that we knew had been waiting patiently for us.
