Active Social Lives

It's exhausting to be the social coordinator of the family. Over the past 19 years, Caleb and I have switched roles for who schedules our social lives. I know I used to do it a lot more before I got pregnant and then when the kids were tiny.

My brain must have broken once the kids reached a certain age, because I think I only remember Caleb coordinating all of our activities for the past five years. However, now it's more 50/50. Either way, no matter who does it, we know to keep an active social life. That's easier said than done.

With our free time, I would prefer to sleep or do introverted activities. I'm raising children, though, and I'm always aware that I have to set a good example for them. It's not healthy to just go to work and then to come home. Humans need laughter and enrichment.

So, we are conscious to say 'yes' to both our kids and other people when they ask us to do things. We're hoping that our children will remember that spending quality time with people was more important than getting into a rut of work and the comfort of watching TV once they start living more independently.
