Connections
Feeling connected to other people can be such a nice sensation. I was at my son's band concert recently, and I was watching people as they entered the gym.
A mass of supporting adults and siblings filed into the hot gym to sit on uncomfortable seats for an hour. When we know we can pass the time with someone we vibe with, it makes the sitting situation more pleasant.
As I walked into the gym, my eyes were immediately roving around. I was looking for my son and our parent-friends. Each time I found what I was looking for, a little spark of joy erupted with me.
Then, I watched people as they entered the crowded gym. I smiled each time I saw them stop at the door and then gave the same searching look as I gave when I entered. It was an unspoken unifying act that nearly everyone did.
Each time they found who they were looking for, a smile crossed their faces. Their bodies seemed reenergized, and they lifted tall, and walked to meet that friend. I could just imagine that they were feeling the same spark of joy erupting within them.
It reminded me that those connections are one of life's little pleasures.
