Family Engagement
I'm currently working on my final quarter of work to level-up in my teaching licensure. This quarter is all about family engagement and how it leads to student success.
I wanted to discuss the assignment I recently submit. It was a personal reflection of my Pre-K through 12th grade education and my family's engagement in it. My parents were very involved in my education, would not allow me to have grades lower than a 'B', and I had to participate in an extracurricular activity.
These were all great foundations for the rest of my life, and I think, one of the biggest reasons that I have reached goals I have set for myself. There's a shift in our education system, and school districts are realizing the absolute need for family engagement to see wide-scale student success.
As a teacher, I try to engage my students' families. Some of those families are full-in for their children. Other families will not communicate with me. The students whose families do interact with me, achieve their goals at school. I don't see much joy and motivation in my interactions with the students whose families don't engage with the school. I'm always hopeful that they will be late bloomers.
I'm looking forward to learning about family engagement as a critical component of student success throughout this final quarter. I anticipate that the information will help me be a better mother, too.
