Judas Amongst Us
It's so interesting to me that there is always going to be a Judas amongst us. I was recently thinking about seven years ago when we lived in Fort Leavenworth and I was at Mass. The priest mentioned how difficult it could be to forgive those people who did us wrong.
The priest said that some of the clergy and he were discussing why, if Jesus knew everything, Jesus would have allowed Judas to stay amongst his group. The priest said he thought it was because Jesus intended to show us that there would always be a Judas amongst us, no matter how hard we tried to distance ourselves from toxic people.
Caleb and I have discussed that sermon often. We've thought about people we know who seem toxic, and how we carefully designed our lives to be away from them. The we cultivated a community of loving people. What has tricked us, though, was when the people we had not thought would turn toxic suddenly did.
That's happened recently, and it was a disappointing turn of events. However, I think that Caleb and I have reflected upon this message so frequently that we aren't as bothered by it as we would have been in the past (I say we but it was definitely me who had to learn to let things go).
