Womanly Wins

I've been thinking about how happy I am that schools now have free menstruation pads provided in the girls' restrooms. I'm a little shocked that it took them so long to provide this necessary item when both boys and girls are legally demanded to attend school.

I remember being in high school, and when Aunt Flo dropped by for a surprise visit, I would have to fold several paper towels together until I could get something better. Public school quality paper towels are a pitiful substitution for a menstruation pad. Have you ever tried to dry your hands with the ones they keep on hand? Those things seem to repel water!

In my situation, I was usually protected because my mom worked at the school and had back up materials. Also, most female teachers kept a stash of supplies because they knew what the girls were going through. So, today my mind is inclined to be grateful for the benefits that other people are now receiving.

It's hard enough to get through high school without our young women needing to worry about leakage. I wish that all girls would be provided with these products without the needs for schools to step in, but that is just simply not the case.

Free menstruation pads are a small victory that goes a long way.
